simplifying,

2-8y-48=4y-70

separating variables and constants

-8y-4y=-70+48-2

-12y=-24

y= -24/-12
=2

2 - 8(y + 6) = 4y - 70
2 - 8*y - 8*6 = 4y - 70
2 - 8y - 48 = 4y - 70
-4y - 8y = -2 + 48 - 70
-12y = -24
y = -24/-12
y = 2

2 - 8 y - 48 = 4 y - 70
- 8 y - 46 = 4 y - 70
24 = 12 y
y = 2

2 - 8 (y+6) = 4y -70

2 - 8 y - 48 = 4y - 70

- 8y - 4y = - 70 - 2 + 48

- 12y = - 24

y = 24/12

y = 2

First you have to F.O.I.L/ or / distribute the -8 (y + 6)

2 - 8y - 48 = 4y - 70

Add like terms

- 46 - 8y = 4y - 70

Add 8y to both sides
- 46 = 12y - 70

Now add 70 to both sides

24 = 12y

divide both sides by 12

Y = 2

2 - 8y - 48 = 4y - 70
24 = 12y
2 = y
2008-09-16 2:48 pm
50+70=12y
120=12y
120/12=12y/12
10=y
y=10
