How to tour Hong Kong in four days?

My wife and I are flying in from a tour of China to Hong Kong on Oct 19 3pm. And we will fly out on Oct 24 9am. So we have Oct 20, 21, 22 and 23, four full days to tour HK. I was born in HK and lived there till I was 19 years old. Then I moved to US. Now it has been 38 years and is the first time I come back to visit. There are just too many changes. What is your suggestion as to how to tour HK in 4 days?
We already booked a hotel near the race track for these days.

well, i am a hongkonger living in hk ok. i love travel myself so i m very happy to help.

i would suggest you read lonely planet book about hk, identify your places of interests first.

hk is a very small place and is well connected by tram/buses/ underground and ferries. it's divided into 3 main parts here:

hongkong island, kowloon peninsular & the new territories / outlying islands.

i would say one part per day:

hongkong island - from your area (happy valley i believe) take a tram to central for bus 6 to southern part of the island like stanley market, repulse bay, a good tour with bus 6 (staying on the top deck) from central during the day would be terrific.

back to central for the peak early evening (by peak tream if u like), dine there or back down to lan kwai fong in central for good food (soho area). if u like local food, go to causeway bay. there are loads of eateries there.

kowloon peninsular - take a tram to wanchai or central for ferry across to tsimshatsui. walk along the promenade for the best view of victoria harbour (you may like to do that in the evening). visit historical museum at the end if you like museums.

take mtr (underground) to mongkok for bird streets & flower markets (if u like these things), or temple street (in the evening) to see local stalls from yaumatei to jordan (a very long street).

shopping: ocean terminal / harbour city near ferry pier & granville road for export shops.

new territories (not really enough time for u to explore as the area is v big, best going by car w/ a friend if u have one). the best place i would say is the tai mo shan, the tallest mountain in hk. it's gorgeous there.

i suggest u take a outlying ferry from central to cheung chau island, have a round the island walk, including visiting the pirate's cave.

alternatively you may like to visit the buddah on lantau island by cable car from tung chung (accessible by west rail) from central mtr station OR simple take a ferry to lantau island from ferry then a bus ride.

when u arrive hk, get a tourist map from the airport and a transport from any mtr station. we use octopus card for everything. u may like to get a tourist day card which doesnt hold your deposit if u return the card within 3 months.

u may contact me for more info. good luck.
