make這動詞與一般動詞不同，隨著它不用to-infinitive，而要用bare infinitive（原形動詞infinitive w/o to)如：He made me laugh.
除了make之外，如let也是要跟bare infinitive，如
Let me go
Don't let it worry you
還有一些感觀動詞，如：hear, see等
I heard him go
I saw the car drive up outside the police station等等
至於甚麼動詞要用to-infinitive，甚麼用bare infinitive，又那些要用gerund則要多看字典，多看文章了，並將它們牢記，這真是並無它法。
