x+y<49 -->(2)

Sub. (1) into (2)
x+x-5<49
2x<54
x<27

So, the largest value of x is 26.

y < x-5
x + y < x + x - 5
x + y < 2x - 5
x + y < 49
2x - 5 < 49
2x < 54
x < 27
