what is the answer of x+5/x=6?

x + 5/x = 6

x^2 + 5 = 6x ............... x^2 implies square of x

x^2 -6x + 5 = 0

x^2 - 5x -x + 5 = 0

x(x-5) -1 ( x-5) = 0
(x-1) ( x -5 ) = 0

x =1 or x =5

This type of question troubles me because I don`t trust it !!!

Some people mean (i) (x + 5) / x = 6
and
Some people mean (ii) x + (5/x) = 6

(i)
x + 5 = 6x
5 = 5x
x = 1

(ii)
x² + 5 = 6x
x² - 6x + 5 = 0
(x - 5)(x - 1) = 0
x = 5 , x = 1

x - 6x = -5
-5x = -5
x = -5/-5
x = 1

x-x+5=6x-x
5=5x
x=1

5+5/5=6

x+5x=6? 5=5x so x=1 or 5 if you shut up

If it is:

x+5/x = 6 then:

(x^2 + 5)/x = 6

x^2 + 5 = 6x

x^2 -6x + 5 = 0

(x-5) (x-1) = 0

Therefore x = 5 or 1


If it is (x+5)/x = 6

Then:
x+5 = 6x

5 = 5x

x = 1

This is a fraction so equate the numerators and the denominators.
i.e x + 5 = 6 and x = 1

the first equation gives you x = 6 - 5 = 1, which agrees with the second equation. Write???

Therefore x = 1.
