Factoring a Polynomial
1. identify patterns of common factors
2. find the common factor
3. use the grouping method to factor the polynomial
4. use the distributive law backwards factoring out the x - 1.
5. And it is factored!

5x^2 + 5xy + 8x + 8y
= (5x^2 + 5xy) + (8x + 8y)
= 5x(x + y) + 8(x + y)
= (x + y)(5x + 8)

5/(x + 3) + 1/(x - 2) = 8/(x^2 + x - 6) x = 5/2

Bring together like terms in brackets and divide out common factors...
