What is GDP?

GDP = C + I + G + (X - M)
Where:
GDP = Gross Domestic Product
C = Household consumption expenditures
I = Gross private domestic investment
G = Government expenditures
X = Gross exports of goods and services
M = Gross imports of goods and services

GDP is often used as a measure of a country's wealth.

In Hong Kong, Census and Statistics Department is responsible for preparing the numbers. Our GDP in 2007 is how much? --> HK$1,616,215 million. What a sky high figure!
