The proposed Kwun Tong redevelopment scheme will cover 5.3 hectares and will be the authority's largest single project .Envisioned in early 1998 by its
predecessor. the Land Development Corporation. the project became the
resposibility of the authority when it was set up three years later.
This highly challenging project comprises the Yuet Wah Street bus terminal
and the area bordered by Hip Wo Street. Mut Wah Street, Hong Ning Road
and Kwun Tong Road. About 24 buildings will be demolished . The Transformation of the site into a modern and vibrant Kwun Tong Town Centre is
expected to take about 12 years. Once completed it will deliver a tolal floor
area of 400,000 square metres to serve 600,000 residents.
The projected cost is more than HK$25 billion, including more than hk$10
billion for buying existing properties
Most buildings are lower than 10 storeys and are more than 40 years old.

The redevelopment scheme will give Kwun Tong residents more open space
and a greater range of facilities to reflect the rising aspirations of the
community . These include landmarks. such as the proposed ovai-shaped
multipurpose civic centre. an iconic commercial tower and a cone-shaped
glass atrium for the public transport interchange. Greenery will cover almost
30 per cent of the site area while the present size of the Yue Man Square
Rest Garden will increase fourfold, with existing trees preserved.
