do this x-4
2 2
add 4 +2=6 6 divided by 2 = 3
x=3

x^2 - 2x-4 = 0
Using quadratic formula,
x = 1 ± √5

If the unknown numbers are a & b then a + b = 6 and a x b = 8 If you make b the subject of both equations, then b = 6 - a, and b = 8/a therefore 6 - a = 8/a multiplying through by a gives 6a - a^2 = 8 simplifying a^2 - 6a + 8 = 0 factorising, (a - 2)(a - 4) =0 and a = 2 or 4 substituting in one of the original equations gives b = 2 or 4 also therefore the numbers you are looking for are 2 and 4 this will give you the general solution for any pair of numbers

x ² - 2x - 4 = 0
x = [ 2 ± √ (4 + 16) ] / 2
x = [ 2 ± √ (20) ] / 2
x = [ 2 ± 2√5 ] / 2
x = 1 ± √5

x(x - 2) = 4
x*x - 2*x - 4 = 0
x^2 - 2x - 4 = 0
x = [-b ±√(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a

a = 1
b = -2
c = -4

x = [2 ±√(4 + 16)]/2
x = [2 ±√20]/2
x ≈ [2 ±4.47]/2

x ≈ [2 + 4.47]/2
x ≈ 6.47/2
x ≈ 3.235

x ≈ [2 - 4.47]/2
x ≈ -2.47/2
x ≈ -1.235

∴ x ≈ -1.235 , 3.235

x(x-2)=4
x^2-2x=4
x^2-2x-4=0
x = 2.73, 0.73

i think, could be wrong, i'm kinda tired.

use quadratic formula x = [-b+/-sqrt(b**2 -4(ac) )] /2a, put equation in the form, ax**2 + bx + c = 0 , here it's x**2 -2x - 4 = 0. plug into the formula -- don't forget that there are 2 values of x, one with the positive sqrt and the other with the negative (this case has 1+srt(5) & 1 - sqrt(5) )

x(x-2) = 4
x^2 - 2x = 4
x^2 - 2x - 4 = 0

use the quadratic equation

and so i think the answer is + or - square root of 20

x^2-2x-4=0

use quadratic formula from here.
