A right cylindrical container 8 cm in base diameter contains water. 6 metallic balls of radii 2 cm are put into the container. If all the balls are immersed and no water overflows, find the rise in water level.

The cylinder can be of infinite height, which guarantees no water will overflow.
All calculations are in centimetres.

Cross section area of cylinder = pi r^2 = pi d^2/4 = 16pi
volume of each metallic ball = 4 pi r^3 / 3 = 4 pi 2^3 / 3 = 32/3 pi
volume of 6 balls = 32/3 pi * 6 = 64 pi

Rise in water level
= volume of balls / cross section area of cylinder
= 64 pi / 16 pi
= 4 cm.
