If A sells an article to B at a profit of 15% and B sells the same article to C for $1196 at a loss of 20% ,how much dose A pay for the article?

let A's selling price be X

X*(1-20%)=$1196
X=$1196/0.8
X=$1495
A's selling price is $1495

let A's buying price be Y

Y*(1+15%)=$1495
Y=$1495/1.15
Y=$1300
A pay $1300 for the article.
