Britain is set to become the most populated European nation within 50 years because of high immigration and birth rates.

i know how to use "is to"

is "set" = 使處於(特定狀態)?
the 3rd definition in yahoo dictionary?

when I use google 翻譯, it say "is set to" = "將成為"

the sentence was found in a newspaper

be set to 中，set 應該係 adjective。
所以如果你睇 yahoo dictionary，應該睇：

8. 很有可能的[F][+to-v]
中譯：
由於外來移民和出生率高企，英國五十年來很可能成為歐洲人口最多的國家。
呢個解釋先 make sense。
「將成為」意思其實相近，但聽起上o黎比較接近 will become 之意，好 firm。
