Range from is to describe a series of things / matters / people which has a certain similarity. Example :
I bought a lot of vegetables today, ranging from tomato to lettuce.
I play a lot of sports, ranging from swimming to hiking.
The population of this city ranges from 1.5 to 2 millions.
