Algeb need help on fraction values?
the value of the fraction is 3/8. what number must be added to both numeratoro and denominator such that the fraction will be equal to 2/3?
need solution TY
回答 (8)
✔ 最佳答案
(3+x)/(8+x) = 2/3
9+3x = 16 +2x
3x - 2x = 16 - 9
x = 7
參考: my cerebrum
(3 + x)/(8 + x) = 2/3
3 + x = 2(8 + x)/3
3(3 + x) = 2*8 + 2*x
9 + 3x = 16 + 2x
-2x + 3x = 16 - 9
x = 7
2/3 - 3/8 = 16/24 - 9/24 = 7/24
3/8 + 7/24 = 2/3
4 added to numerator
16 added to deniminator.
Fraction ==> 3/8
Numerator = 3
Denominator = 8
Let X = number to be added
3 + X / 8 + X = 2/3
Cross multiplication
(3 + X) 3 = (8 + X) 2
9 + 3X = 16 + 2X
Transpose the variable to the left side and constant to the right side
3X - 2X = 16 - 9
X = 7
To check
3 + 7/ 8 + 7 = 10/15 = 2/3
add seven to each gives 10/15 = 2/3
You need to add 3 on numeratoro and 1 on denominator.
the answer is u must add 3 to Nr and 1 to DR.. u will get 6/9 which is equal to 2/3..
solution
let the fraction be x/y = 3/8
so x = 3y/8 ....eqn 1
and y = 3 / 8x
let p,q be the number to be added to Nr and Dr,
(x + p) / (y+q) = 2/3
on solving u get p = 3 and q = 1
i hope i helped..
