Where should we stay for a 1-night stop-over in Hong Kong?

Considering HKIA is on an island, your gonna have to travel a bit by subwat, taxi or bus to get to the main shopping areas. Then taking into consideration if it's an international flight, you need to be there at least 2 hours early. I would suggest not straying too far away, try the Holiday Inn Golden Mile (can find and book online) and shop on the Kowloon side.

Well, if i have one night in HK, i would spend it on a good time in Tsim Sha Tsui area (Kowloon island). It is no.1 destination for tourist and traveller, you should never miss this area

You can shop here (from labels to fake), easily accessible by all means of transportation, nice view on HK city by the night from the harbour, can even take ferry to HK island.

Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui area range from cheapo to extravagant. Cheapo (a lots of hotels in Chungking mansion - strategically located in Nathan road).

If you are looking for a decent place but not breaking the banks, try
Kowloon hotels (very good location, just next to the famed Peninsula)

if just 1 nite w/ a kid. dun travel out to the city. it's far & expensive on transport. so u may just stick w/ the airport. i m living in HK so i knew clearly. there's a nice hotel next to the airport not expensive like abt USD$120 per nite depends on seasons.

our airport is in the Tung Chung area so as the Novotel Hotel. anyway, just 10 mins taxi u wil be there. n downstairs of this hotel.....we hv a v nice hugh outlets mall which selling discounted products year round.

so u can do a bit shopping there if ur kid allow. they also hv cafe, food court (a v famous 1 held by a SGP group), cinema.... bla bla bla. just chk out their website.

if time allow, u can also goto the giant buddha which in Tung Chung also by taking a cable car towards it.

Book a stay at Royal Plaza Hotel, next to shopping mall and the Kowloon train station too. Should be fine for your needs.

Or Prudential Hotel which is just on top of the MTR station and in Nathan Road shopping street.

I would suggest Tsim Sha Tsui. There are many shops and malls there and victoria harbour is within walking distance. Museums are nearby as well.

There are many hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui. On Canton Road: Royal Pacific Hotel, Marco Polo Hotel and Prince Hotel. If you want more expensive ones, there are always The Peninsula, Sheraton and Intercontinental Hotel.

Hotels in Mong Kok or Yau Ma Tei will be good as its not very far from airport, many inexpensive shopping nearby with their specialty shop. As for sightseeing, your can always take the MTR or taxi as you got a 3 yr old child in your hand to museums located at Tsim Sha Tsui and Tsim Sha Tsui East like Science Museum, Space Museum, HK Museum of Art, Ave of the Stars etc. If you got money to spare, than hotels in Central will be better. But if your 3 year old just want some fun for the layover, then Tsim Sha Tsui hotel's like Kowloon Hotel or Stanford Hillview hotel will work well for your.
