It is using the equation : "mass ÷ charge "
Usually, we use it to calculate the relative atomic mass (R.A.M.) of an atom/ element.
Eg : a mass spectrum of chlorine gas is given and some peaks are found on
the graph eg : 1 peak at 35 and 1 peak at 37 and the ratio of these peaks are given e.g. 3:1
To calculate the RAM of Cl2
= (35 x 3 +37 x1 ) / 4
= 35.5 a.m.u.
