It is common to observe the average "backlight life" (MTBF) to be 50,000 hours. Some manufacturers will state the LCD life is 50,000 hours whereas for the backlight life is 25,000 hours.

Translate this figure meaning that LCD can last 2.85 years if always being switched on 24-hours-a-day-the-whole-year OR around 5 to 6 years if switched on at least 10 hours a day.
