The figure shows a kitchen sclae. If the weight of an apple is measured to be 48kg, find two possible values of the actual weight of the apple.

The measurement is correct to 1 kgSo the maximum absolute error=(1/2)*1=1/2kg
The percentage error=(1/2)/48*100%=25/24%
The error=48kg*25/24%=0.5kg
So the maximum weight=48+0.5=48.5kg and the minimum weight =48-0.5=47.5kg

if the scale is 0.5 cm each , i.e.47 , 47.5 , 48 , 48.5 kg....
the actual weight of the apple maybe 48.5 kg or 47.5 kg !
if the scale is 1.0 cm each , i.e. 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 kg....
the actual weight of the apple maybe 47 kg or 49 kg !
