on the ropes是一個美式慣用語,原本是指在拳擊比賽中,某拳手被對手打到節節敗退,退到繩邊,講一個人在on the ropes中,是指這個人的處境十分惡劣.carrer on the ropes的意思是:仕途十分暗淡,就快冇得撈.
