The stage 4 recruitment procedure of Form 6 students originally scheduled for yesterday had been postponed for one day due to the typhoon. Yet many parents and Form 5 students were still queuing up overnight in front of their desired school, disregard the danger of no. 8 typhoon signal. Some of them have even been waited for more than 15 hours and did not leave until the school distributed the chips for application. The Education Bureau and the schools were criticized by some parents and students for their improper arrangement which led to the unnecessary waiting in front of the schools.
Till yesterday the vacancies for public school have only 2,300 something left, while applicants for such vacancies have already exceeded 32,000. This meant for an average of 14 students fighting for 1 vacancy, and hence many parents and students had been waiting in the rain outside the schools since the day before yesterday in order to get a “prioritized position”. Some of them even brought with them a tent for a long time “struggle”.
