To be changed to :
I don't think it appropriate to take such step as a move to enhance the freedom of our country.

I would rewrite it as:
I don't think this is an appropriate approach towards the liberty of our country.

I don't think this is an appropriate step toward the freedom of our country.

For me, it is not a proper move towards the freedom of our country.

Maybe it is not a suitable mean to solve the problem of freedom of our country.
