Read the experience of two American-born Chinese boys at Chinese NewYear.
The cousins of Jane, Tom and David, (come) to Hong Kong to (stay) with her family during the Chinese New Year holidays. Tom and David (be) born in America. Although they (be) Chinese, they (never be) to Hong Kong or mainland China. They found the Chinese traditions interesting. As Chinese, they would (like) to learn more about these traditions.
The two boys read from books that Chinese people (do) different things to bless others during the Chinese New Year period. They wondered what they should (do) for Jane.
" you (think) of a way to bless Jane yet?" Tom asked David.
Not yet." David replied. At that time, the mum of Jane came to them. She said, "Here is a red packet for you to wish you health in the Year of the Pig."
"Ah, (give) red packets is a way to bless others. We may do the same for Jane," David said to Tom.
"That is a good idea. But where can we (find) small red envelopes?"
"We (just get) one each from the mum of Jane. Let us (reuse) them!"
David (put) a fifty-dollar note into the red packet the mum of Jane gave him and Tom put twenty dollars into his. They (give) them to Jane the following day.
Jane (can) not help laughing when her two cousins handed her the red packets. "Usually only married people (give) red packets to others! You (be) too young to do this," she said. The faces of the two boys turned bright red when they (hear) this.
