When Iron(II) sulphate solution is mixed with dilute sulphuric acid and a small amount of a purple solution ,a reaction occurs and the oxidation number of iron changes from +2 to +3
(i)Suggest what the purple solution may be
(ii)what would be observed in this reaction ?Write an ionic equation for the reaction involved.

The purple solution is potassium permaganate KMnO4

It should be observed that the purple colour fade away and the soluton become slightly yellow.

8H+ + MnO4- + 5Fe2+ --> Mn2+ + 5Fe3+ + 4H2O
