2 lines are drawn at the left top right hand corner of a cheque means this is a crossed cheque. You cannot cash a crossed cheque and could only be paid to a person account for bank clearing.
There are 2 types of crossing (1) general (2) specific.
A general crossing means lines are there but without the crossing out of the words 'or bearer' after the name of the payee. In this case, this cheque could be paid in to any person's bank account for clearing.
A specific crossing means there are 'Account Payee Only' in between the 2 lines. In this case, cheque could ONLY be paid in to that named person ( Payee )'s bank account for clearing. The wordings ' or bearer ' is crossed out.
