Well, mainly the appreciating dollar means that one american dollar grows in value relative to other currencies. What this means is that U.S. consumers can now buy items cheaper from other countries than buying from their own domestic stores. This hurts U.S. producers because the demand for U.S. products falls relative to foreign products.
