a^2+b^2=100! please help?

this problem is asking me the area of the square. the square is split in two halves, and the diagonal line splitting it is 10 cm.
what do i do now? my options are
5 sqrt2
10sqrt2
50

If the diagonal is 10 cm, then by using the rules for right triangles, you can discover that the sides of the square are 5√2. Area is side squared, so (5√2)² = 25*2 = 50 square units.

Any time you are given the diagonal of a square, divide the length by 2, and multiply by √2 to get one side. (This is the ratio for a 45-45-90 right triangle)

Let's see... both halves of the square are going to be right isosolese triangles. Hence, both legs will have the same length, say, x, and the sum of the squares of the length of both sides will equal the square of the length of the hypoetuse.

The length of either side is x, and the length of the hypotenuse is ten, so 2x^2=100.

x^2=50

thus, x, by definition, is the square root of 50. the area of the square is x^2.

area of square = b^2
area of triangle is not a^2+b^2=100 but b^2 + b^2 = 100
(because the sides of the square have the same length or it wouldn't be a square)
So the area of the triangle is 2b^2 = 100
Divide both sides by 2 and you get b^2 = 50

well since the shape is a square...a=b (all dimensions are equal)

so a^2 = b^2; therefore a^2 = b^2 = 50 (50+50=100)

if a^2 = 50, a = square root of 50
if b^2 = 50, b = square root of 50....

area of square
= a x b
= square root of 50 x square root of 50
= 50

so i think the answer is 50..

the sides of the square are equal
So let the side be "x'
x^2 + x^2 = 100
2x^2 = 100
x^2 = 50
x=sqrt(50) = 5sqrt(2)
The side is 5sqrt(2) and the area of the square is 50.
