Oh goodness where do I begin. What are you into? Adventure? then you have to read Moby Dick by Melville, it is often considered the greatest piece of fiction every written in America. Or how about something more dramatic like Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. This is picturesque Hemingway and America around the turn of the century. How about romance? Anything by Edith Wharton is great, or Bronte's Jane Eyre is also great. Comedy? Kurt Voonnegut's Breakfast of Champions is considered a turning point in english literature as the dawn of post-modernism. Or how about somethin contemporary? Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay recently won the Pullitzer, and is a fantastic novel of college reading level. If you are into shorter fiction how about The Stranger by Albert Camus, this is a french novel about existentialism, it is a little slow at first but is very profound. I could go on and on and on.
