3a over 7= -2 over 5.. how do you figure this out

3a = 7(-2/5)
3a = -14/5
5(3a) = -14
15a = -14
a = -14/15

Cross-multiply

(3a)(5) = (-2)(7)
15a = -14

Get the variable (a) alone

a = -14/15

Multiply both sides by 35 will get rid of the fractions for you, it should be easy then.
