to solve this, you must multiply the - sign by x, so x equals to -x. Next, you must multiply - sign by positive 3. So +3 becomes -3. Your new expression becomes (-x)-3. Basically, treat the - sign as -1.

(-1) (x + 3) = - x - 3

-(x + 3)
= -1*x - 1*3
= -x - 3

-x-3
or
-3-x

-(x + 3)= -1*(x+3)
-1*(x+3)= -x-3

Ans = -x-3

-(x+3)
=-1 x (x+3)
=-1X + -1(3)
=-X -3

the minus sign simply reverses all the signs within the bracket giving:

-x-3

you would normally set this to be equal to something to give a full equation i,e, -x-3=0 (not necessarily 0)

To be honest I would consider -(x+3) simpler than expanding it out and leave it as it is.

-x+-3

-x-3

distribute the negative sign; treat it as a -1
-1*x=-x
-1*3=-3

and add the new terms
-x+-3=-x-3
