my sister is in hong kong right now and wants to know what I want as a souvenir or two. I have no idea what kinds of things to ask for. I want something representative of hong kong, something that is really from there and not something i can find here in the states. but i also want it to be something than can be in the home of a mid 20's bachelor. any suggestions?

Hong Kong's regularly occurring "evening markets" in Wan Chai and Mong Kok grant an infinite sort of low-value products from clothing to decorations to home equipment. Your sister will easily see some thing only precise for you using potential of walking in the process the evening markets.

I really like this store in Hong Kong, it's called Goods of Desire. Their goods are trendy and inspired by Chinese/ HK culture. They are not expensive.
I'm sure your sis can find something for you there.

a fan..

i'm not talking bout the electrical or finding someone to idolise u... i'm talking bout the handheld chinese fan that swivels open like a peacock's tail which displays cantonese poem or pictures of old hk.

There are also some wonderful street artists along the avenue of the stars promenade who sell original artwork and have some really nice paintings and photography.

Also there is a really cool small photograph gallery at the star ferry terminal pier in Tsim Sha Tsui as you go up the stairs towards the central station on Kowloon. It's called the Lawrence Lai Gallery and he has some gorgeous matted photographs, every imaginable size of Hong Kong and is not too expensive.

it's hard to say since you can buy anything online nowadays. but your sister can try these:
1. Have you name translated and written in chinese. Not the silly rainbow colored kind but the real traditional chinese calligraphy. You can frame and hang it.
2. or have your name carved on a stone to make a seal. The stone will have your chinese zodiac sign.
3. Chinese silk art work can also be good for decoration for your pad.

Maybe a pair of beautiful chopsticks. They can be good ornaments. You can use them if you want to.:)
