in fraction:

you have to make the denominators similar..you can do it by finding its LCD--it is a number that can be divided to both denominators and it will give a whole number as an answer... then proceed to the indicated operation...so the LCD is 20..then divide it to the denominators,,,..lets take first the 3/5...so divide 20 by 5 then multiply its answer to the numerator...then do the same procedure to the other one....so it will become,,,

12/20-5/20 (subtract the numerator and copy hte denominator)

Presuming you need to show your workings, what you do is convert both fractions to 20th's (4 x 5)

You get 12/20 and 5/20

12 - 5 = 7, therefore you're left with 7/20

Multiply it up to get 100th's, that's 35/100 or .35

Hope that helps

5 = 5
4 = 2 x 2
---------------
The LCM of 5 , 4 is:
2 x 2 x 5
= 20

3/5 - 1/4
= 12/20 - 5/20
= 7/20

OR

3/5 - 1/4
= 3 ÷ 5 - 1 ÷ 4
= 0.6 - 0.25
= 0.35

3/5-1/4=(3*4-1*5)/20=7/20=0.35
