Fears of a violent backlash have mounted since the International Criminal Court chief prosecutor sought an arrest warrant against al- Bashir on 10 counts of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur.
Yesterday China voiced concern over the move and warned it might upset peace hopes in Darfur.
Sudan's UN ambassador, Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem Mohamed, indicated he would draw on backing from Beijing - one of the UN Security Council's five permanent members with veto power - to help oppose the ICC.
When asked whether China would use its position to block the charges, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said the matter would be discussed with other members.
Sudan has denounced the indictment as a political stunt and says it will ignore any arrest order.
