Diet Soda+Mentons

There is no chemical reaction within the mento-soda reaction. Why would the soda explode? It is because on the surface area of a mento, there are tiny holes that allow carbon dioxide in the soda to accumulate in them. The reaction(accumulation) is very fast therefore the soda seems to explode. Actually it is the carbon dioxide gas that makes it has an explosive effect.
