Creating a photo gallery for a client: and client uploads his own photos using browser?

How would I begin about doing this? I am fairly confident with my HTML/CSS skills, however I only have very basic knowledge with script languages such as PHP.

Basically a client is asking me to make a blog and photo-gallery that he can maintain & update on his own. Using strictly a web browser.

I don't even know where to begin!

Addition: Preferably not using third-party software engines. I'm talking about building a browser-based photo/blog-upload system from scratch using scripting.

The easiest is to use Wordpress for the blog and then get a WordPress gallery plugin for the gallery. There are a few gallery plugins out there, I use SimpleViewer on my WordPress.

If not, you can use Plogger and integrate it use the same WordPress theme.

Links for you to check out:

There are a variety of software out there to do just what you want. I personally use WordPress for a blog software. It has some photo gallery capability. You can download it at http://wordpress.org/ For a full featured photo gallery, you should go with Gallery. It can be downloaded at http://gallery.menalto.com/

Both are free software and both are full featured and mature software. Both are fairly easy to install and configure. I've been using them for several years now and find them very easy to work with.
