(x - 4) / (x + 8) = 5/7
Multiply both sides by x + 8

x - 4 = (5x + 40) / 7

7x^2 + 51x -28 = 0
x = 0.13
x = -7.42

multiply each side by X+ 8

X-4 = 5/7 ( X+8) multiply each side by 7 7(X-4) = 5(X+8)
7X -28 = 5X + 40 subtract 5X from each side and add 28 to each side 2X = 68 X = 34

Proof

34-4/ 34+8 = 30/42 = 5/7

x+8 = 5/7 * x-4
x+8 = (5x-20)/7
x=(5x-20)/7 - 8
