Please help me to answer the following question /_\
Thank you

The relative abundances of the natural occuring carbon with mass 12 and
carbon with mass 13 are 98.9% and 1.1% respectively. Assuming that there is only 1 stable isotope of H, predict the m/e ratio & relative intensity of
the peak(s) corresponding to the molecular ion of C2H4 (ethane).

There are three peaks:

1st peak:

m/e = 12x2 + 1x4 = 28

(12C12CH4)

Relative intensity = (98.9%)2 = 97.8121%

2nd peak:

m/e = 12 + 13 + 1x4 = 29

(12C13CH4 and 13C12CH4)

Relative intensity = 98.9% x 1.1% x 2 = 2.1758%

3rd peak:

m/e = 13x2 + 1x4 = 30

(13C13CH4)

Relative intensity = (1.1%)2 = 0.0121%
