Let x be the smaller number. Thus, 65-x is the larger number.
5x = 65-x + 25
Solve for x,
6x = 90
x = 15
65-x = 50
So, the two numbers are 15 and 50.

x + x +25 = 65 therefore
2x+25 = 65 or
2x = 40 (65 -25) Or
x = 20 therefore the numbers x and x+25 are 20 and 45 respectively

x > y
x + y = 65
5y - x = 25

x + y = 65
y = 65 - x
5y = 5(65 - x)

5y - x = 25
5(65 - x) - x = 25
325 - 5x - x = 25
-5x - x = 25 - 325
-6x = -300
x = -300/-6
x = 300/6
x = 50

x + y = 65
50 + y = 65
y = 65 - 50
y = 15

∴ x = 50 , y = 15

Let, smaller one=>x
then larger one=>5x-25
sum=5+x-25 = 6x-25
so, 6x-25=65
=>6x=65+25
=>6x=90
=>x=15
Smaller one=>15
& larger one=>(65-15)=50

let x = the smaller no
y = the larger number

x + y = 65
5x - y = 25

add the two

6x = 90
x = 15

x+y =65
15 + y =65
y = 50
2008-07-02 6:11 am
x = smaller, y = larger
x+y = 65
y +25 = 5x

solve
y = 5x - 25 therefore
x + 5x - 25 = 65
6x = 90
x=15, so y = 50
2008-07-02 6:09 am
x+y=65
5x = y+25
5x - y = 25
6x = 90
x = 15
y = 50
