It's quite common in China and happen often in all areas, mainly rural areas.
Most often it's about illegal land use. Sometimes it's about factory pollution cutting into peoples daily life. Sometimes, as in the case above, about the governments lack of transparency.
It usually does not effect foreigners.
In a small county of Guizhou province.
I heard that at first a junior high school girl refuse to cheat in a test with another a relative of the county`s vice magistrate(I`m not sure about the murderer`s gender, but I`m sure that he/she is in junior high school too, ), after the examination the murderer go to the girl with his/her buddiesï¼gangstersï¼ï¼rape the girl first, after that they kill the girl and throw her in the river.
The victim`s uncle is a teacher, he went to the police office to report the case with the girl`s family, but the police beat the victim`s uncle to grave bodily injury(He is already dead now.)
some of the victim`s family members also injuried in the conflict. The police said that the girl was drowned by herself.
Then people of the county didn`t content with police`s opinion about the case, they go on the street to demonstrate, and burn down some cars and some part the government`s office.
Local government try to block the reporter to enter this county and cut off the electronical communication.
I hate this disgusting corruptied governor.

Anti government riot turns deadly in China! Help?
I am from China
A riot is now going on in Guizhou. A girl was found murdered, her family demanded justice from the local police department, however the corrupted officers refused to investigate. More than 1 million people joined in to protests, the government sent riot police to dispense the crown. This provoked the peaceful protestors are they are not buring the police station and police cars, there are reports that the police opened fire but this cannnot be confirmed as the Chinese government in controlling the media.
I hope one day we will be able to overthrown the communist party and establish a free country.
Wow, this is the first I've heard of it. I'm glad I learned of it on here. Thanks for asking the question. It's really sad that something like this happened, but I'm really glad that the people rioted so that something will be done. Hopefully, this won't go any further and the local corrupt officials will be punished. I'm so sad for the girl and her family. They were all standing up for the right thing. Good for them. Local corruption is one of the worst things about China. Hopefully this will be another lesson to the government that it needs to be stopped.
Well... this is so typical...
In China, we called the children from upper level goverment officer as "The Prince Gang". Of course, it is not necessary everyone of them are bad, but it is very likely some of them are very spoiled kids. (You can think that the father of the child is the boss's boss's boss's boss of the child's teacher. Especially worse if the father is at upper position without highly educated himself. The teacher can't give any negative comment to the kid if he wants the job... so the kid got spoiled worse and worse.)
Well... there are plenty of Chinese stories and novels mentioned about "The Prince gang". In the stories, they do bad things as beating up people, selling illegal stuffs or operating illegal places as sexual places etc. Those are consided OK and not too bad behavior as Prince gang. The "Bad guy" in the story usally are the one who rape the girl, and trying to pay money to cover up, but the girl sucided after being raped - traditional chinese girl are serious about the sex thing.
I won't comment if this is the case for this particular one. But it is unlikely to gather 10,000 without some powerful force at the back. The "bad guy" may rape the girl, but it could be someone trying to use this to pull down the father of the "bad guy" from his position. This is the ugly part of poltical game in China even other places around the world.
