The answer is 16/3. No integer, unfortunately.

a/4 = a-4
a = 4a-16
3a = 16
a = 16/3

a/4 = 4/3
a-4 = 16/3 - 4 = (16-12)/3 = 4/3

Finding the number (x):
x/4 = x - 4
x = 4(x - 4)
x = 4x - 16
4x - x = 16
3x = 16
x = 16/3

Answer: x = 16/3 or 5 1/3

Proof:
(16/3)/4 = 16/3 - 4
16/12 = 16/3 - 12/3
(16/4)/(12/4) = 4/3
4/3 = 4/3

y = a certain number

y/4 = y - 4
y = 4(y - 4)
y = 4*y - 4*4
y = 4y - 16
y - 4y = -16
-3y = -16
y = -16/-3
y = 16/3 (5 1/3)

let the number be a:
a/4 = a - 4
a = 4(a - 4)
a = 4a - 16
a - 4a = -16
-3a = -16
a = 16/3

letting x be number, then
x/4=x-4.
So, x=4x-16, so
16=4x-x=3x.
So, x=16/3.
