Hello, I was wondering if it's hard to make your own website for selling a product.

I have 2 great products I have created and I want to sell them online, which should I learn to make a website for this? HTML, PHP, Flash? or all three? What is the most popular in websites now a days?

Does anyone have any websites I can go to for tutorials or training? Also I have no idea how to register a domain etc,. so I need to learn everyone from the beginning.

(Also I was wondering which type of things I could use to receive payments for my products? I only know of PayPal and ClickBank so far, is there any other good trustworthy ones?

So can anyone out there help me here?

thanks,
-john

you may want to add to your list SQL - database

if you want to learn it will take you years
if you just want to sell there are few open sources shopping carts sites that come pretty ready to use
or just get a designer to do it

BTW you asking a question like "i want to do brain surgery what do i need to do and where do i buy scrub?"

Based on your question, I think the easiest is to use a hosted-ecommerce solution, like Shopify.

You will also need to register a domain name. There are tons of domain registrars out there you can go with. GoDaddy.com is a popular one. Other ones include Network Solutions, Doteasy.com, Dotster.com, etc.

Microsoft Office Live Small Business has a very good free website designer that's very easy to use. It also has other things included as well, such as free email, business applications, contact manager, team workspace, etc. Since you are selling only 2 products, I would recommend that you use Paypal to accept your payments. Microsoft Office Live Small Business does have a paid online store option for you to add, but it's not necessary for your purpose (only 2 products). It has a very active community forum so you will get a lot of support if you need any help. Try it out:

Don't break your head. Use a pre-built solution that will give you all that you need and you can extend it.

You can either use Joomla or Dotnetnuke. I have worked with both and Joomla is more user friendly.

Making websites for the first time today can be complicated. I would recommend learning HTML (which doesn't really need to be learnt. Using a "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) software package such as Front Page Express will do it all for you. If you're smart, you'll be able to pick it up fairly easy and what you don't know you can search the web for). The other thing you simply must know is CSS.

Again, this is a simple design-language which will help you create a professional looking website. For help on this, google "CSS tutorials" or something like that into google, there are loads of resources.

Flash is far too advanced for a beginner with no background in programming, so I'd advise you to leave off of that for now. It's not really a web-page editing software, though sites can be made entirely of Flash. Usually, Flash is incorporated into websites - usually for moving pictures and things.*1

Learn CSS and you'll be well on your way. From there, learning JavaScript is the next step and then perhaps Flash.

Good luck!

Try using Microsoft Office Online, new service launched by Microsoft. Otherwise try using Dreamweaver.

Or

Google.
