I have a broken-down computer at home that has all of my dads CV's and business things on it and it ran on Windows XP. It has a HDD connected to the Motherboard. In replacement I am getting a Ei System 1201 Laptop with Windows Vista. Is there any way I can transfer the data from the HDD to the laptop or connect the HDD to the laptop?

Don't tell me about buying a laptop or a HDD because i'm not interested and I have already ordered the laptop.

The easiest thing to do would be to get an enclousure for the drive and use it as an external HD.

About the only other thing you can do would be to clone the drive with a program like Arconis and then the new drive would have a mirror image of the old drives information

you will possibly be able to, see you later because of the fact the SATA connector isn't proprietary, as i myself have seen some laptops use an altered length SATA connector. additionally, a working laptop or computing gadget no longer worry-unfastened rigidity will use extra suitable skill than a pc one (better platters), so keep in mind you ought to prefer to bypass away it plugged in throughout the time of use. and be beneficial you maintain the stress on outstanding of an antistatic bag or such ingredient, to maintain static electric skill from buggin it, because of the fact this is going to not extra healthful indoors your laptop...

I have a IDE to USB connector which you simply plug into the HDD and the into your laptop, it will be picked up as if it is plugged into and IDE port. The only problem is you need a power supply. You can leave it in the casing of the broken computer leaving the power cable conected, connect the IDE cable connected to your laptop and when you want to use the HDD turn on the broken computer to supply power to your HDD. This is a cost effective way of doing things!
Im talking about something like this

There are some USB to IDE/SATA adapter on the market, like this. ANd you take the HDD out from the case and plug it to your laptop using this.

But it is sorta expensive and you probably won't use it again. Alternatively, bring the HDD to a computer repair shop and see if you can use them to burn all the data on your HDD to DVDs.
