The emergence of aboriginal literature has sent shock waves to the literary world of Taiwan. Intellectuals from all sectors, including the Taiwan vernacular literary circle or groups with greater foreign influence , and even those from China mainland and Japan, have attempted to define it from a literary and historical point of view.
From a cross-cultural and translatvie point of view, the literary world of Taiwan is now dominated by two streams of thoughts, namely the "post-colonalism" that has thrived since the 1980s, and the "marine-culture" that has emerged in the 1990s.

台灣原住民族文學的冒／茂生無疑觸發了台灣文學版圖的蠕動並有其重要性，本土派、非本土派乃至於大陸、日本等各方學者抑或是原住民族知識菁英，皆曾試圖從文學史建構的脈絡上，給予各自的定義。從跨文化與翻譯角度觀之，當前台灣文學／文化場域存有兩種主要論述，一者是80年代末期以來蔚為風潮的「後殖民」論述；另一者為90年代末以來新興之「海洋文化」論述。
