Audience
1) The group of people who are watching or listening to a concert, play, show, film or public speaker 欣賞音樂會的聽眾 或者 欣賞戲劇,表演,電影等的觀眾 或者 公開演說者的聽眾
2) All the people who watch TV or listen to the radio 電視的觀眾或收音機的聽眾
3) The people who look at the pictures of an artist, read the books of a writer, or hear about the ideas of a thinker 畫家作品的觀賞者, 讀者或聆聽思想家演說的聽眾
4) A group of people who are listening to you while you tell them something. 一班聽著你說話的人

Spectator
尤其指看體育項目的觀眾
e.g. British soccer used to be a spectator sport for all the family. 英式足球一直以來都是全家適宜觀看 的運動節目。

I wonder if you mean to contrast "audience" and "spectators"?
I think that you always have "spectators" at a sporting event.
You would have an "audience" at the theatre, a concert, the circus, a TV studio, or the people watching TV across the country (who are also known as "viewers").
