when we are saying a light ray is directed towards the centre, does it mean
1.after refracted, the ray will pass through the optical centre
2.before refracted, the light is supposed to pass through the optical centre

Then why would the ray just travels straight through the lens withour refraction?(according to the construction rule for lenses)

I presume you are talking about refraction at lens.

[ a light ray is directed towards the centre], on plain English, it should refer to your statement (2).
