the first you must do is to put all the ones with x in one side..

5/6 + 3/(x+2) = 2/3
5/6 - 5/6 + 3/(x+2) = 2/3 - 5/6
3/(x+2) = -1/6

Cross multiply..
3 * 6 = (x+2) * -1
18 = -x - 2 or -x - 2= 18

-x - 2 + 2 = 18 + 2
-x = 20
-x/-1 = 20/-1 (we divide both sides with -1 to get X)

x= -20

Answer:
x = -20

5(x + 2) + 18 = 4 (x + 2)
5x + 10 + 18 = 4x + 8
x = 8 - 28
x = - 20
2008-06-24 4:58 pm
5/6 + 3/(x + 2) = 2/3
6(x + 2)[5/6 + 3/(x + 2)] = 6(x + 2)(2/3)
5(x + 2) + 6(3) = 4(x + 2)
5*x + 5*2 + 18 = 4*x + 4*2
5x + 10 + 18 = 4x + 8
5x - 4x = -10 - 18 + 8
x = -20

The answer to this is -20

You can verify the answer: 5/6 + 3/(-20+2) = 5/6 + -3/18 =5/6 + -1/6 =4/6 = 2/3

The best way to solve it is to subtract 5/6 from both sides:

3/(x+2) = -1/6

then get the reciprocal of both sides:

(x+2)/3 = -6

then multiply both sides by 3:

x+2 = -18

Then subtract 2 from both sides:

x = -20

5/6 + 3/(x+2) = 2/3

[ 5(x+2)/6(x+2) ] + [3*6 / (x+2)*6) ] =2/3

5x+10 / 6x+12 + 18 / 6x+12 = 2/3

5x+ 28 / 6x+12 = 2/3

(5x+28)*3 = (6x+12)*2

15x+84 = 12x+24

3x = 24-84
x= -20

= -20
2008-06-24 4:06 pm
5/6 + 3/(X+2) = 2/3

3/(X+2) = 2/3 - 5/6

3/(X+2) = -1/6

X+2 = -18

X= -20

5/6 + 3/(x + 2) = 2/3
6(x + 2)[5/6 + 3/(x + 2)] = 6(x + 2)(2/3)
5(x + 2) + 6(3) = 4(x + 2)
5*x + 5*2 + 18 = 4*x + 4*2
5x + 10 + 18 = 4x + 8
5x - 4x = -10 - 18 + 8
x = -20

multipy both sides of the equation by a fraction that will cause a common denominator. Put all the number under the same radical and solve for X
