all you have to know to solve these problems, is that whatever you do to one side of the problem, you must also do to the other side. 3(x-3)=5(1.5+x) (3*x + 3*-3) = (5*1.5 + 5*x) 3x + -9 = 7.5 + 5x 3x + -9 + 9 - 5x = 7.5 + 9 + 5x - 5x 3x - 5x = 7.5 + 9 -2x = 16.5 -2x/2 = 16.5/-2 x = (-16.5)/2 x = -8.25 *****I hope that this helps some!!!! Good Luck!!!!*****
Multiply both sides by (x + 5)
To get 3x - 5 = x + 5
(When you multiply a fraction by it's denominator, it gives you the numerator.
ie. a/b * b
= a/b * b/1
= ab/b
b's cancel out to leave a/1 = a)
Now just solve like normal.
3x - 5 = x + 5
3x - x = 5 + 5 (It should already be obvious that x is 5 :))
2x = 10
x = 5
