y = 9x + 2

subtract 2 from both sides of the equal sign:

y - 2 = 9x

divide both sides by 9:

(y - 2) / 9 = x

so:

x = (y - 2) / 9
參考: Note: You can perform equal operations to both sides of an equal sign and it will still be a true statement, for example: 2 = 2 double both sides: 4 = 4 add 3 to both sides: 7 = 7 etc...

(x - 3)^2 + (x + 2)^2 = 17 expanding the LHS x^2 - 6x + 9 + x^2 + 4x + 4 = 2x^2 - 2x + 13 evaluating LHS and RHS 2x^2 - 2x + 13 = 17 2x^2 - 2x -4 = 0 x^2 - x - 2 = 0 x^2 - 2x + x - 2 x(x - 2) + a million (x - 2) = (x + a million)(x - 2) (x + a million)(x - 2) = 0 (x + a million) = 0 x = -a million (x - 2) = 0 x = 2 Ans x = 2, -a million

9x = y - 2
x = (1/9) (y - 2)
2008-06-24 7:34 am
y = 9x + 2
9x = y - 2
x = (y - 2)/9

You want to isolate x. Remember that the equation will remain equal if you do the same operation to both sides. If you add 2 on the left, you add 2 on the right.

y=9x+2
y-2=9x+2-2....the +2 and -2 cancel
y-2 = 9x
(y-2)/9 = 9x/9....the 9x/9 = x
(y-2)/9 = x

y = 9x + 2
y - 2 = 9x
x=(y-2) / 9

(y-2)/9=x

y-9x + 2

x = (y-2)/9

y=9x+2
y-2=9x

x=(y-2)/9
