For template editing, you need a simple HTML editor. If you know how to hand code, Matrix Y2k 2005 is free and easy to use. If you need a Visual Editor, the I recommend NVU which is also free.

For FTP, to upload/download your pages, to your site, I recommend SmartFTP (free). You need to know the ftp address your hosting site uses, your username and password to log into the site via FTP. Username and PW should be the same as what you use to log into your Control Panel.

You cannoy edit a template using FTP, all this is for is transferring files (File Transfer Protocol) from one destination to another. What you can do is:

Create a file on your desktop; i.e. index.html.
Use FTP to transfer (upload) that file to you webspace.

OR

Log on to your webspace using FTP.
Retreive you file (index.html) to your desktop using the 'get' command.

Hope this helps.

To answer your question....search google for PAGEBREEZE, it's a free website editor, download it, unzip it, open your site in it, when you are done editing, hit PUBLISH, then for the FTP type your website address, username and password.

SO what you need is
*A domain name
*A hosting account that the domain is connected to
*A HTML editor (website maker program)

For FTP:
DOMAIN = example.com
USERNAME = Example
PASSWORD = Example123

If this is too much for you, you are in for a long, long learning session which will result in plenty of headaches and roadblocks of frustration.

And if that is the case, you've got to hire someone, preferably a company, to make your site.

Good Luck,

I got this freeware program, FileZilla for my FTP... it was pretty easy to connect, though you need to know the FTP URL of the site you are posting to and some details. From my past experience, the sites I have FTP'ed to have the 'ftp' beginning instead of the 'www'. Then you need to know your master user name and password for site access. FileZilla has a decent online help, and hopefully your Host IP has their general information somewhere online.

You need to get dreamweaver. It has FTP built in. All you need is the FTP address, User name and password. The documentation for dreamweaver should help you do the rest.

FTP is a protocol for shifting records. If say you create a internet site on your pc and had to post it on line, you may use an FTP shopper (application) to hook up with the distant server (the place the information superhighway internet site would be hosted), then circulate the records over. in case you have have been given particular questions, digital mail me and that i will answer them as superb as i'm able to.

Do you want to edit the file directly using FTP? If yes, a lot of FTP clients will allow you to "View/Edit" the file directly. I use LeapFTP. It will open the file using a Text Editor. Once you "Save" the changes, it will be automatically re-upload to the server to reflect the changes.

1. Open FTP and connect to the server where the file is stored.
2. Once connected, locate the file on the server-side and right-click on your mouse to open a menu that has functions like Download, View, Edit, Move, CHMOD, Rename, Delete, etc.
3. Click on Edit.
4. Make all necessary changes you need. When ready, Save it, and if your FTP client asks if you want to re-upload the edited file, click Yes/OK.

Check the Help Files of your FTP client.

However, wouldn't it be easier if you download the entire site onto your computer, work on the files locally and then when you're happy with all changes, FTP it back onto the server?
