How do you do 7/8 without a calculator?

by using remainders.
7/8 goes 0 times so carry the 7 one decimal over
70/8 goes 8 times, remainder 6, carry this over
60/8 goes 7 times, remainder 4, carry this over
40/8 goes 5 times, no remainder.
the answer is therefore 0.875

Write 7 as 7.00. 8 into 7 won't go, so put a 0 above the 7, then a point above the point. Carry the 7 left over to the next 0, so you have 70. Now 8 into 70 is 8 and 6 left over, so put an 8 above the first 0 and carry the 6 to the next 0. Now, 8 into 60 is 7 and 4 left over. So put 7 above the second 0. Now add another 0 to the end of the original sum and carry the 4, to make 40. Now 8 into 40 is 5. So your answer is :

Theres a easier way.

You can convert 7/8 into 875/1000 by multiplying the numerator and the denominator by 125.
875/1000 = 0.875

Or you could just use long division

You can try to remember 1/8 is 0.125 in decimals.
