Probably because (a) their service is crap; (b) their servers are crap; (c) they're lying through their teeth and plan to bait-and-switch you.

Because it's all a numbers game. Web hosts knows that most large websites don't even require that much traffic or disk space, but it's the "more for less" marketing strategy to get you to signup with them.

Side note: 7500GB of traffic will allow a lot of visitors accessing/downloading a lot of data from your website. But in a shared hosting environment, where you're sharing the same server and network resources with tons of other websites, can the server/network even support all that visitors and activity? Probably not.

When you put a bunch of users on the same server, all it take is just one couple guys who take the "7500GB traffic and 750GB disk space allowance" literally and the whole server would stall - affecting performance of all other sites on the same server.

Because the market is so competitive, and space and bandwidth are so cheap.

For example, most hosts offer $100 for each new client that an affiliate brings in. That includes a customer that may only spend $8/ month. In effect, many will host the first year for free after they pay the affiliate.

Rather than pay outrageous affiliate fees, they go another route. Offer MORE, hope that clients do not max out, and start collecting something right away.

thats a marketing strategy. You can not fill out that space. It is just a lie. When you really want to fill out that space they close your site. So be more carefull for those tricks.
